Shah Rukh all the way at Poland's Bollywood fest ival

march,31,09
Shah Rukh Khan once again stole the hearts of the Polish fans with his performance in "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" at the Second Bollywood Film Festival in Poland where Aamir Khan's "Taare Zameen Par" and Deepa Mehta's "Water" were also screened.

Shah Rukh, who is almost a household name in Poland, didn't leave much scope for others to replace him in the hearts of his fans at the weeklong festival entitled 'Experience the Taste of India' that concluded Sunday.

"Shah Rukh is well-established in our psyche and we feel close to him with his performances. For us, it doesn't matter who are the other great stars in India these days - whether it is Amitabh (Bachchan) or his son Abhishek, Aamir Khan or Hrithik Roshan," said Anusia Sancewicz, a well-known media personality.

"Shah Rukh is really superb in most of his movies that have been shown in Poland in the past four years starting from 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' which took Poland by surprise. In a sense, this film opened the floodgates for Bollywood films," added Anusia.

All the tickets of "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" were sold much in advance though the film was screened on the last day. In Warsaw, two multiplexes screened the film to meet the heavy rush - despite that many had to face disappointment as they couldn't get a seat in any of the two halls.

"Aamir Khan's 'Taare Zameen Par' is an excellent movie and it has been appreciated by educated people, but the craze for Shah Rukh remains unabated," observed Riki Rana, a successful businessman and son-in-law of legendary Bollwyood singer Talat Mahmood.

"The role of a commoner portrayed by Shah Rukh in 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' created more ripples in the minds of the Polish audience as Raj Kapoor had done with his roles in 'Aawara' and 'Shri 420' in 1950s and 1960s in the erstwhile Soviet Union," added Riki Rana.

J.J. Singh, president of the Polish Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that to promote Aamir a separate festival of his films needs to be organised.

"To promote Aamir Khan we should organise an exclusive festival of his big films such as 'Ghajini', 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Fanaa'. The climax of 'Fanaa' was filmed on the Tatra mountains of Poland, yet the film has not generated much curiosity in this country, which is surprising," said Singh who was also the main patron of the festival along with the Epelpol Entertainment.

Deepa Mehta's "Water", Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham starrer "Dostana" and Yash Raj Films' "Tashan" were also screened along with "Outsourced" and "Hello".

"Since Poland produces very artistic movies with great directors like Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Zanussi and Roman Polanski, that is why Mehta's 'Water' was highly appreciated by the artistic Polish fans," said Gabellia Krzyzowska, an eminent Indophile.

"There is scope for films of Shabana Azmi, Nasiruddin Shah and Om Puri," she added.

Bill O,ray has vowed to boycott Sean Penn's movies

march,31,09
Controversial TV pundit Bill O'Reilly has vowed to boycott Sean Penn's movies -- insisting he can't watch the actor's big-screen projects due to their conflicting political views.

The right-wing commentator, who fronts his own show The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News, is well-known for his criticisms of liberal celebrities, and has openly mocked left-wing stars Jessica Alba, George Clooney and Rosie O'Donnell.

Now, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, O'Reilly has admitted he wouldn't pay money to see Oscar winner Penn's movies due to his involvement with controversial politicians, including Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.

When asked by the publication if there are any actors whose political opinions disturb him so much he wouldn't see their films, he replied, "Just Sean Penn."

And when pushed on the response, O'Reilly explained, "He's a great actor, and if you hire him, you'll get a good performance.

"I'm just not going to give a guy who gives aid and comfort to people like (Iran president Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez and Saddam Hussein, when he was alive, my 10 bucks. That's my right as an American."

In 2005, Penn visited Iran acting as a journalist on an assignment for the San Francisco Chronicle and has defended Venezuelan leader Chavez by claiming the U.S. was "becoming increasingly gullible to the demonizing of foreign states or leaders."

Liam Neeson Completes 'Chloe' Hollywood Movie

march,31,09
Grieving actor Liam Neeson has returned to shoot the final scenes of his forthcoming movie "Chloe" after he was forced to abandon filming to be at the side of his dying wife Natasha Richardson duing her final hours.

The Irish star quit the production of Chloe in Toronto on March 16, after learning Richardson had been hospitalized in Montreal following a fall during a skiing lesson.

He then flew his gravely ill partner to New York, where he was joined by family members and close friends at the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. Richardson passed away two days later.

The producers of Chloe rescheduled shooting to accommodate Neeson, allowing him time to comfort his devastated sons, Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12.

The star threw himself back into filming once he had buried his beloved wife last Sunday -- returning to Toronto to wrap the movie.

But he was lost in mourning when the cameras were turned off, according to New York gossip column PageSix.

A source who spotted him sitting alone in a Toronto hotel tells the publication, "It was so sad. He looked like he was in an Edward Hopper print."

Neeson's representative confirms the actor has "completed the movie."

Madonna Adoption Ruling Delayed

march,31,09
Madona will have to wait until the end of the week to find out whether she will be able to take home Mercy James -- a Malawian court has delayed a ruling on the adoption until Friday.

The singer flew to the African nation over the weekend with her 12-year-old daughter Lourdes and 3-year-old-David Banda, whom she adopted from the country in 2006.

And she has formalized her bid to make Mercy a part of her family, filing adoption papers at a courthouse in the capital Lilongwe on Monday morning.

But the judge presiding over the hearing has adjourned the proceedings until Friday -- meaning Madonna will have to wait four days to find out whether she will be able to make the girl an official member of her family.

The adoption bid has sparked outrage amongst the child's surviving relatives, with her grandmother, Lucy Chekechiwa, 61, vowing to fight to keep the tot in Malawi.

Children's charities have also criticized the star for adopting from abroad -- insisting orphaned kids need to remain in their native countries in the care of their extended families.

The controversy mirrors the furor that surrounded Madonna's adoption of David Banda in 2006 -- with some accusing the Malawian government of side-stepping the country's adoption laws because of the singer's fame and wealth. The adoption was subsequently finalized last year following two years of legal wrangling.

Cohen Faces NC-17 Rating

Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's racy new film Bruno is facing an adults-only certification -- amid fears that it may be too sexually explicit for young viewers.

The film's first review by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) panel has resulted in the restricted NC-17 rating, which would prevent anyone under the age of 17 from seeing the movie, according to TheWrap.com.

The movie is a follow-up to Cohen's cult hit Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, and follows his outrageous Austrian fashion-forward character Bruno as he attempts to make it big in Hollywood.

Ratings officials are reportedly concerned over several sexually explicit scenes, including one where Cohen's character engages in what appears to be anal sex with another man.

Confirming the rating, a spokesperson for movie studio Universal adds, "On its first submission the film did not receive an R [rating], but it is far too early to say that there is any struggle to get there, as the process is only at its inception."

Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt is expected to be released in July.

Arjun gave a traditional gift to nicol kidman

march,31,09
What better gift for an Australian blonde beauty than a traditional Indian sari. Just weeks after her compatriot Kylie Minogue came and shook her leg with Akshay Kumar for movie Blue , Aussie actress Nicole Kidman flew to Udaipur to shoot an advertisement with Bollywood star Arjun Rampal , who she did not know was a film star until she saw fans grappling for his autographs. Arjun and Nicole reportedly bonded quite well on the sets of the ad which was shot over a period of five days under the direction of Shekhar Kapur . Since it was a tight schedule, Nicole mostly kept herself busy with work and on the day the shooting wrapped up, Arjun had a special gift for the ‘Australia’ star.

He gifted her a sari designed by Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani .

Nicole was reportedly very touched by Arjun’s gift. A sari would doubtlessly be a good souvenir of the little time she spent in India.

Even the ad Nicole shot had a very Indian milieu.

Bipasha Basu refuses to share stage with Amitabh Bachchan, bollywood

march,30,09
Mumbai: Bipasha Basu is having a bumpy ride sailing through 30. Ageing beauty, the Bong bombshell appears to be suffering from some attention-seeking syndrome or so suggest her sneaky antics. After being involved in a petty tussle with young Deepika Padukone over the publicity of ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ last year, the smoking hot siren has once again refused to share centre stage with not just any celebrity but Amitabh Bachchan.

Apparently when it comes to hogging on the lime light, Bipasha doesn’t want to share it even with Big B. The sassy babe, who is the brand ambassador of a sports brand refused to be present at an event of the company, since Big B and son Abhishek were also invited at the event.

The brand in question is reported to be Reebok that was showcasing its new range designed by Shiamak Davar. What’s more is that though Bips had agreed in principle to attend the event, she backed out at the last minute without any prior information.

Quoting a source, a news daily reported, “Bipasha was miffed that Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan had also been invited at her event and she wouldn’t get solo coverage which she had wanted to promote her film, ‘Aa Dekhen Zara’. Shiamak had sent her T-Shirts with the sportswear logo and design a day before the event but she still didn’t go.”

Though a spokesperson of the actress denied the news, Bips’ past actions make it impossible for us to thrash this B-town talk.

Hollywood movie"Dark Knight" scoops Empire Awards

march,30,09

The second film in the rebooted Batman franchise, The Dark Knight, has taken home three prizes at the Empire Awards.

Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale won best director and actor, while the movie won the title of best film.

The late Heath Ledger also received a special commemoration award for his life works at the ceremony in London.

Voted for by readers of the monthly film magazine, the awards attracted luminaries such as Tim Burton, Danny Boyle, James McAvoy and Gemma Arterton.

Arterton won best newcomer - a prize for which she had been nominated two years running.

"It's quite scary, because now I'm a proper actress," she told the BBC.

"But it's actually nice to have moved on from being a newcomer."

Bond movie Quantum Of Solace, in which Arterton had a brief role, took home Best Thriller, while McAvoy collected the best sci-fi prize for Wanted.

Helena Bonham Carter dedicated her best actress prize for Sweeney Todd to her partner - and the film's director - Tim Burton.

"I always wanted to be in a musical, always wanted to sing, always wanted to be in something written by Stephen Sondheim and I always wanted a baby girl," she said.

"I got all of those, thanks to Tim Burton".

Slumdog Millionaire director Boyle was presented with the Outstanding Contribution To British Film prize by Andy Bishop, Paul Scott and Alan Knill from his favourite football team, Bury.

The director said the award marked the end of his duties for the Mumbai-set drama and that he was "going to start work tomorrow morning" on his next project.

"It's a lovely feeling getting all these awards," he said, "but you've got to get back on the bicycle at some point".

Australian actor Russell Crowe was also present at the ceremony to collect the Actor Of Our Lifetime prize.

He took to the stage and recited Rudyard Kipling's poem If - a sly reference to the 2002 Bafta awards, where his recitation of Patrick Kavanagh's Sanctity was edited out of the television broadcast.

"Thank you for this honour," he concluded, "and the opportunity to read some poetry at a British awards ceremony.

"It's one of my favourite things to do. Thank you and good night."

Viggo Mortensen, best-known as Aragorn in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, was also named Empire Icon for his contribution to world cinema.

Other awards on the night went to coming-of-age tale Son Of Rambow, which won best comedy, and gangster caper RockNRolla, which took home Best British Film.

Director Guy Ritchie was present to accept the award, but refused to speak to the press - on the day that his ex-wife Madonna arrived in Malawi, where she wants to adopt a young girl called Mercy James.

None of the stars of The Dark Knight were present to accept their awards, but both Nolan and Bale sent video messages.

"When you make a film like Dark Knight you really hope it reaches a lot of people, and Empire and its readers are really a great audience," said Nolan. "Thank you very much."

Jonas Brothers, Christina Aguilera Celebrate Perez Hilton’s Birthday

march,30,09
For someone who mocks
celebrities on his popular blog, Perez Hilton sure has a lot of famous friends.

Christina Aguilera, the Jonas Brothers, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian were among some 200 well-wishers who attended the gossip king’s 31st birthday party Saturday night.

“I’m not thrilled with the number 31,” Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, said on the pink carpet in front of the Viper Room nightclub. “But I am super excited that, right now, I’m happier in my life than I ever have been before.”

Hilton bragged that the first gift he received was from “High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron.

“He sent me a bottle of champagne to my hotel room, which made me squeal like a little school girl,” he gushed.

The Jonas Brothers, who dashed from the Kids’ Choice Awards to sing “Happy Birthday” to Hilton, gave him an autographed guitar.

Aguilera belted her version of Marilyn Monroe’s sultry birthday serenade to President John F. Kennedy.

“Happy birthday, Mr. Per-ez-ident,” she cooed.

Britney Spears’ Camp Shutting Down Fan Site

march,30,09
The popular Britney fan site announced on Friday that it may be shutting down due to an alleged legal clash with the pop star’s father and co-conservator, Jamie Spears.

“I have been battling the conservatorship Britney is currently placed under for months now. When I did not conform to the requests and demands Britney’s management and father, Jamie Spears, recently put upon BreatheHeavy to stay quiet, they in turn became angry and malicious, launching, what I feel is an unjust attack, against me and my [Web site],” Jordan Miller, who runs the Web site, wrote in a message to site users on Friday.

Miller also claimed that he had received a threat of legal injunction unless he were to shut down the site by 3 PM on Friday, over copyright infringement laws relating to use of Britney’s music and image.

As of Saturday morning, many of the site’s pages and content had been removed.

“Britney doesn’t control her affairs. You are an uber fan who’s gone a little too far,” Brad Rose, a Britney lawyer, told the site, Miller claimed.

Miller added that he believes bigger legal issues are involved in the move to shut his site down.

“The real issue, in my opinion, is hidden behind these Copyright Infringement claims, rather (sic) management, particularly her father / conservator, Jamie Spears, who makes $18,000 a month off his daughter, is desperately trying to hide the truth about Britney’s imprisonment and shut anyone up who disagrees with their conniving and selfish exploitation of an innocent mother of two pushed back into the lime-light just several months after a hospitalization,” Miller wrote on his site.

And additionally, Miller alleged that Jamie Spears told him in a phone conversation, “I will destroy your ass.”

In a statement to Access Hollywood on Saturday, Miller discussed the emotions behind the popular Web site.

“I ran BreatheHeavy.com everyday for 5 years because of the love and support I have for Britney and her fans,” he told Access. “Fans from all over the world, just like me, follow Britney because she is an inspiration and an icon. I felt BreatheHeavy was a site where fans could unite together and discuss her music, latest whereabouts and tour performances.”

“I cannot believe anyone, including Jamie Spears, would want to take that away from her fans,” he added.

However, Miller’s accusations are at odds with a recent court filing indicated that Britney’s mental and physical condition has greatly improved following a hospitalization and a tumultuous period toward the end of 2007, which led to the star’s father handling her affairs through her current conservatorship.

A rep for Britney was not immediately available when contacted by Access Hollywood.

Hot new heroes dig science,Hollywood

march,29,09
So much for gangsters or communists infiltrating Hollywood. The real invaders turn out to be scientists."Just a sign of the modern times -- the science has to be there," says director Roland Emmerich, whose end-of-the-world film, "2012," opens in November. "We are all looking for great themes out there, and science has those."

Audiences agree.

"Knowing," Nicolas Cage's apocalyptic science thriller, surprised critics by topping the box office with $24.8 million in ticket sales last weekend. "Angels & Demons" star Tom Hanks last month toured Europe's CERN atom-smashing facility, which also stars in the anti-matter mystery movie premiering May 15.

And a spate of other science-themed flicks arrives this year as well. James Cameron's alien world of "Avatar" opens in December, and Sony's animated inventor comedy, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," opens in September.

"It turns out a lot of people in Hollywood think science is cool," says Jennifer Ouellette, director of the Science and Entertainment Exchange, the Los Angeles outreach office of the venerable National Academy of Sciences.

The exchange, which formally opened in November, pairs films and shows in development with scientists. Its goal is to get the science on the screen straight.

"Writers and directors have discovered there is a higher tolerance, maybe even an interest or a demand, for better science," says "Angels & Demons" director Ron Howard, who worked with CERN scientists on the film's depiction of the lab. "Audiences are getting smarter by the minute."

On the small screen, shows such as CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" are making scientists look almost cool, says media scholar David Kirby of the United Kingdom's University of Manchester. "We are in a golden age of science on television," he says.

Shows like "CSI" and Fox's "Bones," in particular, try to get science right, says Kirby, a former academic biologist. "Science gives these shows certainty in uncertain times. Even if science, in reality, is all about uncertainty."Says sociologist Wesley Shrum of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, "Science in entertainment isn't anything new.""A Trip to the Moon," the 14-minute silent movie regarded as the first science-fiction film, was a hit after its 1902 release. "The Lost World" in 1925 featured dinosaurs trying to eat scientists and stomping city dwellers, almost seven decades before "Jurassic Park."

"Movies change to reflect the society around them, and the way science appears certainly reflects that," says astronomer and blogger Phil Plait. In the past century, scientists went from somewhat remote heroes in films, such as 1943's "Madame Curie," to more sinister figures in the Cold War, such as the title character in 1964's "Dr. Strangelove," to more human characters, such as Jodie Foster's Eileen Arroway in 1997's "Contact." Of course, mad scientists have always been popular, from 1931's "Frankenstein" to today's Fox show "Fringe," blessed with its own nutty professor who works in a basement lab.

"Fringe" aside, "the scientists you see today are not Mr. Spock. They're human, and that's a real change," Plait says, pointing to TV shows such as "The Big Bang Theory." "Even if they are depicted as über-geeks, they are still interesting people you'd probably like."

"Jurassic Park" in 1993 "made the biggest turn" in Hollywood's interest in science, Emmerich says. The dinosaur-cloning science was part of the film's appeal, a discovery that raised the credibility requirements for entertainment, he says. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" had bumped up science's profile, he says, but reasonable science has been a bottom-line requirement only in the past two decades.

"We really noticed it doing 'Apollo 13,' " released in 1995, Howard says. NBC's "ER" was in its first years, and Howard and others were struck by its readiness to use medical jargon, much of it meaningless to the audience, to add authenticity to the story. That helped persuade writers of "Apollo 13" to keep the NASA lingo in the film, which "helped make it more authentic," Howard says.

A focus on 'credible science'

"Every major film and TV show today has a science consultant," says Kirby, author of the forthcoming "Labcoats in Hollywood" (MIT Press), who has studied the steady increase in the number of science advisers from the dawn of film to today. The big change today is the involvement of science advisers from the beginning of a show's production, Kirby says. "In the past, producers would cold-call universities for advice on how to fix an already-written script. Now you have scientists help maintain a logical consistency to the science, even if it's unreal, throughout."

Says Caltech physicist Sean Carroll, "Scientists certainly like it when films get the equations right, and I think audiences pick up on credible science."

His favorite science movie is last year's comic-book adaptation "Iron Man," "because it has a long sequence of experiments and ideas not working out or blowing up in the hero's face," Carroll says. "That's the kind of science I'm familiar with, trial and error, things never quite working out as easy as you hope."

Shows rarely have time to get to the real meat of the scientific process: testing ideas with experiments, Plait says. And scientists too often, in his view, complain about little mistakes, missing the broader benefits that a positive depiction of science brings to the profession.

"OK, we see telescopes stuffed into crowded rooms, but that's a trivial thing," he says. "Entertainment is supposed to entertain, but good science can make stories better, throw up roadblocks, make plots more interesting and involving."

One recent example was the link between "Watchmen" and University of Minnesota physicist James Kakalios, who not only helped cook up a quasi-science explanation for the Dr. Manhattan superhero (a quantum-physics-altering blue man played by Billy Crudup), but also discussed the psychology of researchers with filmmakers.

The success of "March of the Penguins" in 2006 has revitalized the nature documentary field as well, a mainstay of science entertainment, says Jean Francois Camilleri of Disneynature in Paris, which premieres the nature documentary "Earth" nationwide on April 22, Earth Day. "A lot of the advances in film allow us to shoot films we never could imagine before," Camilleri says, pointing to lightweight cameras and faster computer editing. Some of those same advances enable special effects that almost demand help from scientists to explain, Emmerich says. "Audiences are jaded and cynical these days. If they see something that is not credible, they will shut it off."So how good is the science in today's films and shows?

"Occasionally, you will get a glimpse of real science, ideas being tested by experiments," Kirby says. "For the most part, audiences want the answers quickly."

'It can't all be science'

"There still has to be that fantastic element. It can't be all science," says Emmerich, whose 2004 film, "The Day After Tomorrow," featured an instant Ice Age that climate scientists say stretched reality. "We had a real scientific worry, and we just packed it into a few days instead of decades or centuries," he says.

More broadly, how science appears in entertainment can change how people see scientific problems, says Plait. The 1998 film "Deep Impact" featured some shaky science in its plot to divert a massive asteroid from Earth with nuclear bombs, he notes, but is widely credited by astronomers with raising public awareness of the threat from "Near Earth" asteroids and helping secure funding for asteroid surveys.

On the other hand, Kirby says 2000's "Mission to Mars" perpetuates a bogus idea because the film depicted as real the geological feature known as the Face on Mars, which is an optical illusion.

"The trend toward science in entertainment may fizzle," Kirby says. "But I would argue that it is here to stay. "

"Asha" is a cool 'Daadi'

march,30,09
Asha Bhonsle likes to ‘squash’ her grandchildren with attention on Sundays, and cook according to their requests • For years... I did not enjoy a Sunday holiday because I worked every day of the week. It was only after the mid-1960s that I started taking time out from work on Sundays. When my children were young... it was my Sunday routine to take them for a morning show movie (usually at 10 am), followed by treating them to chicken patties and pineapple pastries at the Gaylord, at Churchgate. Composer Jaikishen (of the Shankar-Jaikishen duo) would always be there too, and we’d have a chat over coffee. In those days... one would often bump into Bollywood celebrities doing exactly the same thing that I was doing. The atmosphere was one of camaraderie. I used to bump into Helen sometimes, who would be out with a bunch of kids at the morning matinee show. Now my Sundays... are usually spent cooking for my grandchildren. They love my cooking and often request for a special dish of their choice. I try to live up to their expectations. Sometimes friends drop by in the evenings. I watch TV and just chill with my family. Sunday is my non-vegetarian day... I eat vegetarian on Mondays and Tuesdays. The menu can be meat or seafood, and of course vegetables. • I watch too much TV... I am a soap addict. Maybe, one day I will act in one but no one seems to take me seriously. I am quite updated on the news front too. Most of the news I get is from the various TV news channels. I’m not reading... anything right now, as I’m in the process of writing my autobiography. I’ve been watching ... a bunch of both Hindi and Hollywood films. I love cinema. Recently, I saw Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and liked it a lot. I also saw Valkyrie. I don’t... sleep late on Sundays. I like to enjoy Sunday to the fullest; be up and about, rather than lolling around in bed. My grand kids are in school all week long. So, Sunday is my day to pamper them and just generally squash them with attention. I prefer being at home... since I am out of the house all week. My restaurant business keeps me busy nowadays. I love cooking and started my first restaurant seven years ago as a hobby, but today there are seven outlets spread out all over the Middle East and England, which serve my recipes. To remember... a memorable Sunday I’ll have to open the calendar for Sundays over 70 years! So no, I can’t think of any particular one.

AR Rahman ousts Beckham From ad Campaign

march,30,09
Mumbai: Music maestro AR Rahman has done what none could dream! The ‘Mozart of Madras’ has ousted soccer star David Beckham from the ‘Motorola’ ad as the new brand ambassador and has taken home a whopping Rs 28 crores for the same.

According to reports, the jaw-dropping amount has been paid to Rahman to replace Beckham. The soccer superstar was reportedly paid Rs 22 crore earlier for his endorsement of the brand.

It is believed that Rahman is being chased by innumerable companies to represent their brand ever since his Oscar win. The Oscar-tag has made a bigger brand out of Rahman than even international brand names like Beckham.

The composer has literally become the ‘world’s-envy-India’s-pride’ in everyway!

highest paid Indian actress of Bollywood,

London: Freida Pinto, who shot to fame after starring in Oscar-winning British film Slumdog Millionaire has emerged as the highest paid Indian actress in Bollywood, even overtaking Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif.

The earnings of 24-year-old Pinto has crossed 2 million pounds, overtaking Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai. If the report is correct, the progress of the one-film actress is phenomenal.

“Freida can’t be compared to Aishwarya, because we’re not pitching her as an Indian girl in international films. Freida is a true global face,” said Anirban Das, CEO of her management company. The model-turned actress has already been signed for American director Woody Allen’s next film, to be filmed in London this summer.

She has also signed top director Julian Schnabel’s new film based in Israel and Palestinian Authority. She has started shooting for Miral, based on the book by Palestinian-Italian writer Jebreal.

Shah Rukh Khan Sush Friends Forever

march,29,09
We didn’t say that. Sushmita Sen said that about herself! In the city to attend an event, Sush made a candid confession. When asked what was
that one thing in her life that she would not want to talk about in public, she said, “Meri zindagi ek khuli kitaab hai.
Aur mere baare mein aisi koi cheez nahi hai jo duniya ko na pata ho shayad. Woh isliye bhi, kyunki main bahut besharam hoon. And a situation where I feel scared in giving answers to any questions posed to me will not be a good situation at all aur main nahi chahti ki aisa mahaul kabhi bhi paida ho.”

Sen looked a lot slimmer in a dazzling black saree, which was a good thing but behaved a lot busier, which was not so cool! “Mujhe maaf kar do is baar, main zyada baat nahi kar sakti,” she told everybody she met. But we couldn’t have let her go just like that, na! Is she miffed with SRK for not shooting for Vivek Vaswani’s Dulha Mil Gaya, we asked her? “Of course, not! SRK is shooting for the film. He has an entire song in it. He and I are friends and that equation will not change ever. I am upset with all that has been written about the film, him and me though!” said Sush.

And what about her films, we haven’t seen her on the silver screen for a really looooong time now! “All my films are underway. There’s Karma Aur Holi, then there’s Do Knot Disturb too. And you will get to see a lot of me now,” she said. Point taken, but there have been as many controversies too. “Yes, I know I have been misquoted at times and there have been controversies regarding my films, but then it’s a part of the film industry,” added Sush.

Guess who was paid more?

While the ad world pays millions to strip David Beckham down to his briefs, all that Allah Rakha Rahman has to do is just be his usual self for two minutes to take home a far bigger pay cheque.

The jaw-dropping sum of Rs 28 crore has been paid to Rahman to replace Becks in a Motorola ad, says a source very close to the composer. The football superstar got Rs 22 crore for his endorsement of the brand. The music maestro, an unassuming person despite his immense successes, has been chased by eight- or nine-digit deals ever since his recent double Oscar win. His deal with Star Aviation, the Indian wing of the Dubai-based ETA Star Holdings, is almost through. Plus, he already endorses Airtel.

While Rahman is known for usually creating the music for all the ads he does, the Motorola ad is not likely to have his score. He is simply there in the ad for a couple of minutes. It is, in a way, the most expensive walk-on part in the history of showbiz.

"Jade Goody made me a star ",said shilpa,Bollywood

march,28,09
Indian actress Shilpa Shetty has credited late Jade Goody with making her a star in Britain.

The Bollywood stunner and the TV celebrity appeared on Big Brother in 2007, where Goody sparked thousands of complaints from viewers for her allegedly racist abuse of Shetty.

"She was the architect of my fame, and I give her the credit for that," The Telegraph quoted Shetty, as saying during an interview on Richard and Judy.

Goody passed away on Sunday after a highly publicised battle with cervical cancer. She was 27.

Shetty said it was "destiny" for the pair to work together again on that show, but added: "We didn't get a chance to bury the hatchet.

"We kind of moved on with our lives. Every time her name was taken (mentioned), my name would be taken and the whole racism issue would be raked up... we had this weird connect in a strange way."

Shetty said she last spoke to Goody two days before the British star got married in February, adding: "She led a very short life, but she''s seen it all, she''s seen the highs, the lows, she''s had children at such a young age, she''s married."

Shilpa Shetty to marry Raj Kundra this 2009

march,29,09
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is all set to tie the nuptial knot with jewellery tycoon Raj Kundra later this year.

The 33-year-old actress is planning a traditional wedding and has set a tentative date in October this year, the Daily Mail reported.

The couple is yet to make an announcement about their marriage.

"I have very traditional views of marriage. I've seen my parents maintain a 35-year marriage and I really believe marriages are made in heaven," the actress said.

"I've always said that the day I decide to tie the knot it is going to be for good. I have often wondered who the right person would be and I've come to realise that for me it is Raj. I'm completely sure he is my soul mate," the actress said about her two-year-old relationship with Kundra.

The couple is planning a traditional wedding in India.

"I have spoken to Shilpa's parents and we are doing it the Indian way. In India you don't get engaged until just before the wedding, so I didn't go down on one knee to her or anything like that. But we have definitely set a date for this year," Kundra said.

It would be Shilpa's first marriage while Kundra was previously married to Kavita and has a daughter with her.

Shetty met Kundra in early 2007. The 34-year-old millionaire owns a Dubai-based business trading precious stones and metals.

Kundra is also helping manage Shilpa's career and is said to be behind her decision to invest in Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals, the last year's IPL winners.

The couple recently bought a seven-bedroom, 5 million pound house in Weybridge, Surrey in London.

"I believe in the institution of marriage, I'm dying to have kids, and when you see the Weybridge home, it's huge, it's a great family home, so I can't wait to bring up children there," she had said in an earlier interview.

Shetty became a household name in the UK after a racist storm in the 2007 Celebrity Big Brother, involving late Jade Goody whom she credits for her success.

"Lrving R. Levine" NBC newsman dies

march,29,09
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Irving R. Levine, the NBC newsman who explained the fine points of economics for nearly a quarter century, has died. He was 86.

Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., says Levine died Thursday. Further details were not released.

The bow-tied Levine was a presence at NBC since 1950 when he began covering the Korean War until his retirement in 1995.

His overseas assignments included stints in Moscow and Rome.

He had become the network's full-time economics correspondent in 1971. He did weekly commentaries on CNBC in later years and appeared on Meet the Press more than 100 times.

Star dubs Jade 'Primark Princess'

march,29,09
Russell Brand has described Jade Goody as the "Primark Princess", who appealed to the public because of her "authenticity and accessibility".

In a tribute on his website, the comic, who knew Goody, said people criticised her because she was "just a normal girl with no trade or practised skills".

"Well people didn't care", he wrote. "Our heroes are not prescribed to us.

"We have the right to choose them and the people chose Jade." Goody died of cervical cancer aged 27 last weekend.

"Fame has long been bequeathed by virtue of wealth and birth," Brand continued.

"This was the first generation where it was democratically distributed by that most lowbrow of modern phenomena - reality television.

"When Big Brother 3 made her famous, she was vilified in the paper and bullied in the house.

"But through her spirit she won people back round and became a kind of Primark Princess with perfumes and fitness videos and endless media coverage - because people were interested in her. They remain interested."

One of Brand's best friends, a woman in her mid-20s, was "genuinely heartbroken" at Goody's death, he said.

"Herself a mother from a working class background, she obviously connects with this sad narrative in a way that she doesn't seem to with J-Lo or Jennifer Aniston or Posh Spice, most likely because of Jade's authenticity and accessibility."

Goody's funeral takes place in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, on 4 April.

Salman Khan slaps Katrina, loses his Barbie doll

march,28,09
Mumbai: Bollywood’s bad boy Salman Khan is back at his antics, doing what he does best! The moody actor turned violent recently and girlfriend Katrina Kaif had to bear the brunt of his anger with a tight slap on her face that apparently jolted her.

According to reports, Salman slapped Katrina while the latter was shooting with co-actor Akshay Kumar. Salman, who was reportedly visiting Katrina at one of her movie sets, lost his mind as Katrina had snubbed his orders not to work with Akshay.

Inside reports suggest that Salman had slapped Kat previously too while the two dined at a coffee shop though Katrina had later refused to acknowledge that event.

Khan, who is notorious in the film industry for his bad behaviour, has in the past been accused of being violent with his other girlfriends, too. He was also accused of attacking Aishwarya Rai while he was in a relationship with her and his supposed brutality had left the actress black-eyed.

The actor is apparently acting typically possessive these days. He had recently dropped onto the sets of ‘Rajneeti’ to keep a check on Kat because of the rumours of growing proximity between Kat and co-star Ranbir Kapoor.

Buzz has it that the incident has taken a toll on their relationship and the duo are headed towards splitsville.

Bipasha Basu in Fashion

march,28,09
The debate over whether having Bollywood stars at fashion shows shifts the attention from the designers and their creations, to starpower, has JO1.jpg been on for sometime now.

But Kolkata is more than happy to have high-profile Bollywood stars walk the ramp. As the first edition of the Kolkata Fashion Week kicks off in style on April 2, the city will get to see none other than Bipasha Basu sashaying down the ramp!

It is a return to the roots for Bipasha, who came down to shoot for her debut Bengali film in Sob Choritro Kalponik. It’s another matter that the film is yet to be released over a confusion with Bipasha not agreeing to someone else (read Sohini Halder) dubbing for her in the Rituparno Ghosh film. “I find it ridiculous that one version of the film that’s dubbed by another artiste would be sent for the National Awards, while another version that’s dubbed by me will be used for the film’s commercial release,” Bipasha insists. The proposition seems a tad weird, what with the jury and the man on the street being quite familiar with the star’s natural voice quality.

While it seems that Kolkata will still have to wait for sometime till it gets to see the Ballygunge girl returning to the Bengali silver screen, it’s only a matter of days for the star to return to Kolkata ramp. “I will be walking the ramp at the Kolkata Fashion Week,” she says, much to the excitement of her fans.

And that’s not all. The buzz doing the rounds is that her beau John Abraham, too, would be gracing the KFW ramp! In case you thought the duo would be too hot together for the Kolkata ramp, grapevine has it that the stars would be walking for different fashion designers.

Yudhajit Dutta, managing director, Mindscapes Group of Companies that is promoting the KFW, isn’t ready to spill the beans yet. Refusing to confirm the news, he says, “All official announcements, including the names of the designers whose collections the stars will showcase, will be made on Monday.”

Neha Dhupia, Dino Morea, Mugdha Godse and now, Bipasha Basu… April sure seems to be the busiest month on Kolkata’s fashion street!

Asin to romance Shah Rukh Khan

march,28,09
Mumbai: ‘Ghajini Girl’ Asin Thottumkal seems to be the apple of everyone’s eyes. The Khan trio are vying with each other to rope in Asin for their respective projects. After Aamir and Salman, it is Shah Rukh Khan, who seems to be interested in the Southern beauty. Reportedly, King Khan has recommended her name for an upcoming film, which was earlier to star Katrina Kaif.

The film, produced by Yash Raj Film, is set to go on floors in 2009. Talking about the film, a source told a news daily, “The Yash Raj project was to go on floors during 2009 but Asin was committed to do a Priyadarshan project co-starring Akshay Kumar. In fact Akshay himself had suggested her name and she had landed in a catch 22 situation as rejecting the Yash Raj project would mean taking on the biggest production house’s ire and refusing Akki’s film would mean hurting him.”

Asin was on cross roads but then luck favoured her and Akshay’s film got delayed. The film is to go on floors next year. So, Asin readily agreed to work with Shah Rukh. But now reports are doing the rounds that Asin will be replaced by Katrina in Akshay’s film.

I want to turn"Director"Bipasha said,bollywood

march,28,09
Nine years only in Bollywood, and Bipasha Basu would like to think she understands the technical aspects of cinema well enough to direct a film. Either that, or she doesn’t want all her experience to go to, er, waist by playing only the floor-burning sizzler forever. The bombshell admits she’s got direction on her mind, and it’s not for a too distant future.

“I’ve learned on the job. I now understand script, character, choreography, camera angles. So I guess I do see myself directing a film,” revealed Bips, adding confidently, “I know I’ll be fantastic with things from behind the camera.” The direction chaska began with her own interest and fascination in the way she looks! Styling has always been crucial for Bipasha. “Nowadays I take more interest in the way I look. I’ve become conscious of what suits me. I won’t do anything that I don’t follow or don’t feel comfortable in. Fortunately we have such capable choreographers. They know I’m not a professional dancer. So they give me movements that are fun and more me. I understand all that now,” she sai
