C4: No tribute for Jade Goody

march.26.09

Channel 4 is planning no tributes to the late Big Brother star Jade Goody in the tenth anniversary year of the reality show.

C4 head of programmes Julian Bellamy confirmed today that despite being the channel that launched Goody's media career, there would be "nothing specific" to mark her passing in his schedules this year.

At C4's spring/ summer launch, Bellamy was also tight-lipped about how the channel planned to celebrate Big Brother's decade on air this summer.

Goody sprung to fame in Big Brother's third series and later contributed to the show's biggest controversy when tempers flared between her and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty in the 2007 series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Bellamy said the tributes would be confined simply to an online farewell to Goody from Brighter Pictures creative director Phil Edgar Jones, who executive produced Big Brother 3.

In his tribute, posted on channel4.com, Jones remembered the production team's mixed reactions to Goody's audition.

"Some thought she was bold and brash and charming and funny; others thought she was simply too annoying to be on TV," he recalled.

"What was certain from the outset, though, is that as soon as you saw her you wanted to talk about Jade Goody."
