HOLLYWOOD (Hollywood Today/RushPRnews) 02/22/09– “We had no stars; no power; no money, but a script that inspired mad love” and for a movie about destiny, this film sure had a way of writing its own. When it comes to the Oscars, it’s always refreshing to see the little guy win and with “Slumdog’s” mere $15 million budget, it all goes to show, that a good story can win over the Academy’s heart.
A special evening for all of Slumdog’s casts, two of the youngest members, (who still living in Mumbai’s slums) made their first trip outside India to attend this momentous event.
With eight nominations, the film did stand against some tough competition in the Best Picture category including: “Frost/Nixon”, “The Reader”, “Milk” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Its actors, including London-based lead actor Dev Patel, and his leading lady Freida Pinto, not to forget Irrfan Khan, and Anil Kapoo, mostly unknown in America appeared stunned throughout the evening, as Oscars winnings piled up.
“Slumdog” won in several other categories throughout the night- including Best Cinematography and Best Adapted Screenplay. A rags to riches story, turns a little film into a grand scale masterpiece.
